Probe expands into Ohio chase that left 2 dead

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND (AP) - Cleveland's mayor says an investigation is expanding into a police chase that involved 63 patrol cars and left two unarmed people dead last November.

Officials in Cleveland said Tuesday that investigators have found that more patrol cars were involved in the chase than initially thought.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson says an ongoing investigation by the state and the widening scope of the city's administrative probe means they won't be able to finish their work as soon as they expected.

He says they now want to interview 115 officers and dispatchers.

Authorities have said that 13 officers fired 137 rounds at the two people who were shot following a half-hour pursuit.

Some community leaders called the shootings racially motivated. The police union says the driver had tried to ram an officer.
