Yvonne Fneiche says she recognized the signs of dyslexia in her children at an early age.

"Often times they will reverse their letters they will confuse the different sounds of the letters they often times have trouble learning to tie their shoes that's one of the biggest markers is the fact that they master that by kindergarten," said parent Yvonne Fneiche.

Dyslexia is a developmental reading disorder. It happens when the brain does not properly recognize and process certain symbols. Fneiche took her kids to the Dyslexia Center of Northwest Ohio. She says her daughter has turned into an academic rocket.

"Her reading is tremendous now and she's read over 50 novels this last year alone," said Fneiche.

Diane McCreery heads up the program. A program that teaches students different ways to read and learn words.

"One of the things we do is write it in the sand. If I say to the student say A and they say A then I say what spells A we all know that A spells A but AI spells A AY spells A a consonant spells A," said the director Diane McCreery.

The Children's Dyslexia Center of Northwest Ohio says 15- 20 percent of children struggle with severe reading disabilities.

The director says many of the children who are undiagnosed struggle through school, drop out or sometimes end up in jail.

"80 percent of the people in the prison population have some type of learning disability and of that a few probably have dyslexia. We want them to succeed and the only way to learn to succeed is to read and spell," said McCreery.

So they can become excellent students like Fneiche's children.

"The changes this programs makes are so profound and is so gratifying to see your kids knowing that they are struggling knowing that they need help and finding that the locations that not only helps them but does it with a fee," said Fneiche.
