More than 100 new jobs are being added to the area with the opening of a new Walmart Super Center in West County.
This Friday is the grand opening for the new store on West Ridge Road in Millcreek Township. On Tuesday night, employees gathered at the store, to celebrate their new work place.
This store will be replacing the current one on West 23rd Street. It will now become a Super Center, expanding to contain a full grocery store with fresh produce and meat, a deli counter and bakery general along with general merchandise.
Along with a total of 115 new jobs were added with the expansion, store manager Pete Burns tells us some of the employees from the current store, even got promoted.
"Adding that many jobs is great for the Erie Community," said Burns. "Its great for the associates, because a lot of the management have come from the hourly rank, so its just a great opportunity for folks to have jobs and grow with us."
Burns said the new store was built to be more energy efficient, saving nearly 40% more energy than the current store. He said in the long run, it helps customers save even more when they're shopping.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 AM on Friday, February 1.
