It appears that the McDowell High School construction project is on hold...at least for now.
On Wednesday evening, the Millcreek Zoning Board denied the Millcreek School District's zoning variance request to relocate Gus Anderson Field.
The district was hoping to build a new 4,500 seat stadium across the street from its current location. In order to do that, it would require 2,250 parking spaces.
Bottom line--the school district did not have enough room for parking. They were 935 spaces short.
Members of the No New McDowell Group are calling this a huge success for their cause.
"We've been fighting for this for the past nine months now," said group member Nolan Canfield. "We're very happy with the zoning board standing up for the entire township."
Even though this was announced during a public meeting, the zoning board refused to comment.
