Scattered pockets of snow across the area caused several accidents throughout the region Thursday morning.

A multi-vehicle crash on US 23 shut down the highway for hours. Officials say a semi jack-knifed, causing a chain reaction of collisions. Traffic was backed up for miles from Plank to Carpenter in Milan as crews worked to clear debris off the road.

Further south, ice and snow slowed down the morning commute in the Glass City. Slick conditions caused a four-car accident in the eastbound lanes of I-475 near Talmadge.

A one-vehicle accident closed the intersection of Cherry and Summit in Toledo briefly. Police say the vehicle struck a pole. No one was injured.

Officials with Ohio State Highway Patrol say it's important to adjust your driving to match road conditions.

"Any bad weather conditions, you need to slow down and lower your speeds," says Lieutenant Bowers. "In the situation of blowing winds, you need to anticipate snow on the road or white out conditions."
