A downtown Erie bar that was reportedly becoming a nuisance, is shut down.
Cougars bar at 13th and State, closed a few weeks ago.
It was never officially dubbed a nuisance bar, but police say it was on their radar.
Shortly before the owner shut down the business, police were called there, several times.
On one occasion, police charged the owner, Pat Artise, with "disorderly house."
While that's just a summary offense, Artise decided to close his doors.
"We have had numerous complaints about the bar, and the patrons going to and from that business. We did address that on the same level as we do all the businesses that we consider a nuisance bar. And you've got to keep in mind that we're not there to shut down any business, we're just there to make sure they comply with the law and they do business accordingly." Said Erie Police Chief Steve Franklin. "In this particular case, the owner decided to shut his business down rather, than contest what we were reporting." Chief Franklin added.
During a court hearing Thursday, the owner was fined $300 dollars, for that disorderly house citation.
