About 300 women attended an annual event to learn more about preventing heart disease, on national wear red day. It was the 7th annual UPMC-Hamot heart awareness expo at the Bayfront Sheraton Hotel.
Women could get free screenings for blood pressure and body mass index, and reduced cost tests for cholesterol and blood sugar testing. And many speakers offered insight about the danger facing women.
Lorrie Szablewski, R.N. of UPMC-Hamot said, "Today's event is to promote awareness about heart disease. So women know what their risk factors are and what they can do to help prevent developing heart disease in the future."
Since national wear red day began, 21% few women are dying from heart disease.
