They are still talking. In fact, it's turning into a marathon weekend of talks for PASSHE the Pennsylvania School System of Higher Education and APSCUF, the union representing faculty. The contract for faculty in the state system expired in June of 2011 and in more than two years of discussions they have not been able to reach an agreement on a new pact.
Faculty continues to work under the old agreement, and students at PA owned universities, including Edinboro are worried about a looming strike. The word from the negotiations in Harrisburg this weekend though, is that it "looks" encouraging. The two sides talked so long on Friday that the bargaining session stretched into 1:00 AM Saturday. They picked back up 10:30 AM Saturday and were still talking at 9:00 PM.
Jean Jones, Union President for Edinboro faculty is in touch with the local bargaining team. She says they've booked rooms to keep talking on Sunday.
PASSHE Spokesman, Ken Marshall says pay issues are long settled. The two sides continue to work on health care costs and they on distance education issues.
