A Monroe County man is dead after being assaulted in his home.
Around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the Monroe county Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Carleton-Rockwood Road in Ash Township on a report of a dead body.
A deputy arrived on the scene and found the homeowner David C. Killian lying at the bottom of the basement stairs. Mr. Killian, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Mr. Killian had a verbal altercation with a known suspect that turned violent. During that fight, Killian was assaulted.
The known suspect was arrested and charged with open murder pending arraignment. It appears that both alcohol and drugs were a factor in the crime.
