Optimism at Edinboro Over Faculty Contract Talks

Posted: Updated:

There is optimism on the Edinboro University campus. Students and faculty are relieved that negotiators have reached a framework on a contract that would avert a possible faculty strike.

It is not final yet. But marathon weekend talks ended on an upbeat note with both sides announcing the so-called framework of a deal.

No one is yet talking about specific details. But the faculty union says all key issues, including health care costs were addressed.

Edinboro University Faculty President Dr. Jean Jones said, "There is still a little bit of tension. But I think we are all greatly relieved that things are moving in a very, very positive direction. I am so pleased and so relieved that we have a framework and it looks like we're going to move forward toward putting this difficult time behind us."

Ten of the 14 union chapter presidents must approve the deal. They will discuss the framework beginning at 5:00pm on a conference call. If it is approved, as expected, and state leaders also sign off, a ratification vote will be scheduled soon.
