The YMCA kicked off their We Build People 2013 campaign on Monday.
The goal for this year is to raise $191,000. So far, they've raised $47,000.
Gerry Vandermerwe, CEO of YMCA of Greater Erie County, said the money will be used to help families going through financial hardships obtain memberships and benefit from programs offered at the YMCA.
One of the faces of this year's campaign is Kellie Williams. Williams started going to the Eastside Family YMCA after she was diagnosed with lung cancer. To her, the YMCA is a place of healing and safety.
"If people don't have the help, some of these programs won't exist," said Williams. "From the little toddlers on up to the older folks, we all need it."
For the next eight weeks, you can stop at any of the Erie County YMCA locations or donate
