3 killed in apartment fire in Wyandot Co.

Posted: Updated:

Two men and a woman were killed in an apartment fire in Wyandot County early Tuesday morning. It happened shortly before 3 a.m. in the village of Harpster.

The bottom floor of the building holds an old antique store that closed up shop. The second floor contains apartments. Officials say three people living upstairs didn't make it out.

18-year-old Zenan Wample, 20-year-old James Gatchell, and 19-year-old Lauren Vinson were killed in the fire.

Officials say one person jump from a second floor window to escape. That person was taken to Mercy St. V's in Toledo and is listed in fair condition.

It took at least a dozen fire departments to get the flames under control. Officials say the building was so engulfed in flames it prohibited any sort of search and rescue.

The Wyandot County Red Cross is assisting others that were displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
