Grandma finds child porn in box from auction shop

Posted: Updated:

A grandmother opens a box of books she bought for her grand kids and finds pictures so disturbing that police are now hunting for answers.

That grandmother bought the box of books at an auction and re-sale shop in Port Clinton.

When she got home and started to go through the box, she found pornographic pictures, mostly of children, hidden inside a book.

The woman does not want to show her face or release her name because she's scared for her safety, but she's speaking out to help police trace down where the pictures came from.

"I opened it up and there were pictures in there that were disgusting and horrifying," says the grandmother.

This grandmother is sick to her stomach and scared after what she found in a box she bought at this auction and re-sale shop on Perry Street in Port Clinton.

It's a consignment shop that holds auctions every Wednesday

She successfully bid on a box filled with books, DVD's, and toys she wanted to give to her grandchildren.

Later she found hidden inside a Star Wars book something shocking: a cardboard cover of an adult pornographic DVD with child pornography pictures glued to it.

"About a dozen," says the grandmother.  "It haunts you. I wish I had never seen them because they are traumatizing. It's terrible."

"The pictures appear to be very old. I would guess maybe 70s, 80s," says Detective Sgt. Corbin Carpenter with the Port Clinton Police Department.

Detective Sgt. Carpenter says the owner of the auction shop had no clue the child porn was inside the box he sold.

"I spoke with the owner. He's been very cooperative," says Detective Sgt. Carpenter. " I'm meeting with him in the future to try to go through his ledger to find out who did the consignment, who brought the property in for sale in an attempt to track this stuff back."

Police say also in that box was a DVD of a regular movie, not a pornographic movie, and it had a serial number on it. According to police, that DVD has been missing from the Oak Harbor Public Library for months.

Detectives have other leads and are looking for more to solve the crime.

"I hope to God they do," says the grandmother.

Port Clinton Police encourage anyone with information in the case to call the department at 419-734-3121.
