Erie City Council today gave a boost to fundraising efforts for phase two work on Erie's Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Phase one was dedicated last November. But the vets need about $170,000 for the second, and final phase. That work will include six tablets describing the history of the war.
Council today approved $5,000 for the project. Organizers hope they can raise the rest of the money this year, so phase two can be finished by Veterans Day.
Vietnam Veteran Tim Doyle said, "We're hoping to talk to anybody and everybody to see if we can get enough funds to really achieve our goal of November 11th."
The memorial is located between State Street and Glenwood Park Avenue near West 26th Street.
