The Achievement Center, an agency that works with children with disabilities is moving from its current location on East 6th Street and Perry Square to the former Steris headquarters building in Millcreek.
The six million dollar move will help the agency expand its programs. The move is made possible, in part, by a decision from Erie Insurance to buy the current agency site across the street from the Erie Insurance campus. Part of the agency building is 100 years old and at one time headquartered what is now the insurance giant.
The Achievement Center board is hoping to only borrow 25 percent of needed funds, relying on a capital campaign led by Honorary Chair and Erie Insurance Chairman Tom Hagen.
Hagen says after the agency is relocated the old building will be refurbished and could serve as a Heritage Center to showcase the history of Erie Insurance.
The agency will move into temporary space in Steris at the end of March until the renovated space is ready to go.
