A settlement approved today has ended a 7 year old legal fight over the development of Erie's Convention Center complex. Local developer Nick Scott will pay the authority $1.3 million to end the dispute.
The deal comes less than a week before the dispute was scheduled to go to trial.
The authority was seeking nearly $3 million.
Scott and the authority have been at odds since the authority dropped Scott as the developer of the hotel part of the complex. It was originally planned for bayfront property owned by Scott .
The authority today unanimously approved the settlement in a brief meeting. Members said the deal prevented them from commenting. But the chairman did read a prepared statement.
James Marnen said, "The parties...have resolved their dispute in order to avoid the expense, distraction and uncertainty that would inevitably result from continued litigation."
In a written statement Nick Scott, Sr, said, "We are pleased the litigation has been resolved. We are excited about what the future holds for the development of our property on Erie's Bayfront."
