Storm brings snow, hazardous conditions to Mich.

NEWAYGO, Mich. (AP) - A storm that's brought up to 14 inches of snow to parts of Michigan's Lower Peninsula created hazardous driving conditions and prompted hundreds of school closings.

The storm that moved into the state Thursday brought snow Friday in the Detroit area, where roads were slippery for the morning commute.

At least two deaths are being linked to the storm. A Waterford Township man suffered a heart attack while shoveling snow in his driveway. A Hudsonville man suffered the same fate while shoveling in western Michigan.

The National Weather Service says 14 inches of snow was reported in Newaygo, north of Grand Rapids. Other parts of that region and mid-Michigan saw at least 3 inches to roughly a foot of snow.

In Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula, snowfall totals of up to 9 inches were reported.
