ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 1600 relay team highlighted a strong day of performances as the Bowling Green indoor track and field team competed in the first day of the GVSU Big Meet Friday, hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Brittany Sinclair, Felicia Jefferson, Demetra Taylor and Allison Weimer raced to a time of 3:48.74, sprinting past the team's best time of the season by a full half-second. A week ago, the team ran a 3:49.24 at the Akron Invitational, which was almost four seconds faster than any other BGSU time this year.
The Falcons also set season-best times in three other events on the first day of the meet, beginning with Abby Koch in the 5000. She finished the race in 17:45.06 to place 29th out of 109 competitors.
In the mile, freshman Maria Meredith set a new personal best with a time of 5:06.31, more than a second better than her previous best of 5:07.76, which was also the team's best this year. Brea Tinney also set a personal best with a time of 10:10.74 in the 3000. That time was also more than a second better than her previous best of 10:12.29.
In the 400, Brittany Sinclair posted a solid 14th place finish out of 39 competitors with a time of 57.57. Teammate Allison Weimer finished 16th in 57.61.
Bowling Green will be back in action Saturday on the second day of the GVSU Big Meet.
