Man with 7 DUI convictions gets 30 years for fatal crash

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A central Ohio man with seven drunken-driving convictions has been sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison for causing a crash that killed a woman in November.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Judge John Bender in Delaware County Common Pleas Court sentenced 45-year-old Marc Kraft on Friday to the maximum 29½ years in prison.

Bender handed down that sentence after listening to 36-year-old Heidi Hecker's family speak emotionally about the impact of her death.

Police say Kraft's blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he slammed his pickup truck into the back of a stopped Subaru in Delaware, near Columbus.

Hecker was killed, and her 10-month-old daughter and boyfriend were injured.

Kraft hand't had a valid license since 1992, and has six previous drunken-driving convictions in Pennsylvania.
