Oilers Complete Cornell Kane Invite

ITHACA, N.Y. - The University of Findlay men and women's track and field team completed the Cornell Kane Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Ithaca, N.Y.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Michael Travis, Tim Sanders, Kyle Smithey and Dillon Webster finished third with and NCAA provisional time of 3:21.56. Individually, Sanders took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with an NCAA provisional time of 8.15, while Travis took fifth in the 400-meter dash (50.75) and Webster finished ninth in the 800-meter run (1:56.93).

In other men's running events, Justin Eilerman had a fifth place, NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:17.53 in the mile run while Tim Majoy placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:03.93.

In men's field events, Taylor Miller (59-02.75), Marcus Vicars (56-03.00) and Darren Bass (54-03.00) took second, third and fourth, respectively, in the shot put event with NCAA provisional qualifying heaves. Vicars also took fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 51-09.25, in front of Miller who finished eighth with a toss of 49-00.25.

Corey Shank placed first in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 15-09.00, while Glen Forsythe recorded a second place, NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump with a distance of 48-05.25, and a fourth place finish in the long jump (22-10.00)

On the women's side, Kendra Averesch and Jessica Rowland dominated the competition in the shot put and weight throw events. Averesch placed first in the shot put with an NCAA qualifying heave of 47-07.25, and Rowland second with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 44-08.00.

In the weight throw, the Oilers finished 1, 2, 3 when Anna Knapski got in the mix with a third place toss of 49-03.00 while Averesch placed second with a mark of 51-09.75. However, Rowland's first place finish may have been the most impressive of the day as she set a new Cornell field house record with her NCAA automatic qualifying heave of 68-05.00.

Lydia Guagenti also competed well for the Oilers in field events with a second place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5-05.00. She was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team with teammates Samantha Grippe, Maud Sanmiquel and Shelby Stump who took fifth with a time of 4:08.45.

On Friday, Pam Showman made the trip to Grand Valley State University for the GVSU Big Meet where she set a new school record in the pentathlon with her fourth place, NCAA provisional qualifying 3,480 points.

The Oilers will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 15 for the Buckeye Tune-Up in Columbus, Ohio.
