An east side Erie apartment is a loss, after a fire early Sunday morning.
It happened in the 600 block of East 8th street around 5:00 in the morning.
Fire officials tell us the tenant in the upstairs apartment was cooking with grease, when that caught fire. Everyone who was inside got out safely, but fire officials say it's a reminder of how important it is to be aware when cooking.
"Cooking fires for us and across the country is the number one cause of fires," said Chief Fire Inspector Guy Santone. "When people are cooking with grease, or with oil have they have to be very careful."
Fire investigators believe the cause was accidental from cooking, but won't make an official ruling until they complete their investigation.
