Boaters this year should have an easier time getting in and out of several popular bayfront locations.
The Erie Port Authority is now seeking bids for dredging Lampe Marina, the East Avenue Boat Launch, and part of the East Canal Basin. The areas were last dredged 3 years ago.
And the sand that has been building up has become a headache for boaters. Plus, the low level of Lake Erie has made the problem even worse.
Ray Schreckengost of the Erie Port Authority said, "We would be doing this dredging project normally even with the water levels being normal. But now that they are low, it is extremely important we get this done, otherwise we have areas we can't get into."
Schreckengost thinks the work will take 3-4 weeks, and cost about $40,000.
