Residents who use some Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare services remain uncertain if a new Secretary will help them address ongoing complaints.
Current Secretary Gary Alexander gave Governor Tom Corbett his letter of resignation on Friday; it will take effect this Friday February 15th.
Alexander came under fire for living in Rhode Island and earning travel expenses for his job in Pennsylvania.
He also angered many in the independent living community by consolidating where payroll services could be processed for home care attendants paid through Medicaid.
That consolidation created confusion and large back logs that kept thousands of home care attendants from being paid.
Taking those services out of the hands of local agencies also made it harder for those agencies to make ends meet.
"The proof will be in what we see," Voices for Independence Executive Director Shona Eakin told us.
"There's been too much stuff happen in the past two years for us not to have that kind of attitude."
Deputy Secretary Bev MacKereth will take over on an interim basis beginning the 15th.
