Edinboro University Athletic Director Bruce Baumgartner, the Olympic wrestling champion, says he can't believe the sport he loves may be dropped from the Olympic Games.
Baumgartner won 4 medals, including 2 golds. And he remains active in USA Wrestling, the governing board of the sport.
He said he was shocked by the decision of the International Olympic Committee to make wrestling compete with 7 other sports for one slot in the 2020 games.
Baumgartner said, "Wrestling is one of the first, if not the first sport in the Olympics, the ancient Olympics the Greeks used to compete in. So it was a very sad day for me and shock."
But Baumgartner expects wrestling supporters worldwide to launch a major push to reverse the decision.
A final vote is set for September.
