Local residents on Thursday got an inside look at how the Erie Police Department operates.
It's called the Citizens Police Academy, and this year's program kicked off on Thursday night. It's an 11-week program that those involved get a chance, to learn all about the department.
From the detectives division, to the K-9 unit, to the bomb squad and SWAT Team, officers conduct the classes, with special guest speakers.
"Its important for the community to know their police department and know how we operate so we have a better understanding," said Lt. Kirk Werner. "Also, it gets the community involved with the police, we can always use all the help we can get from the community."
There are still 10 weeks left in the program, you can sign up
