Adrian firefighters responded to a fire on the 600th block of West Beecher Street on Friday afternoon. When they arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from a second floor apartment.
Four people live in the apartment, but only three were home when it started. All three made it out safely, as did the occupants of the 16 other units in the building.
Firefighters say there weren't any injuries, but seven families were displaced because of heavy smoke damage in the building. The Red Cross is assisting those families.
Captain Jim Dailey with the fire department says the fire does not look suspicious, but they have not determined how it started.
"The alarm system did notify all occupants in the building," says Dailey. "They were all able to leave safely, which is great."
