Alicia's Voice gears up for important fundraiser

It's a busy weekend for Kathy Newlove, the founder of Alicia's Voice. 

Saturday, she's hosting a tacky wedding reception party to raise money for the organization named after her daughter, a victim of domestic violence.

"Alicia was murdered on March 29, 2007, she left behind four children," Newlove said.  "I just knew at that point I could not let any other person go through what I was going through."

The extra funds will help Newlove provide basic necessities to women in the community.  Since 2007, more than 1,400 Wood county women have been helped.

"I had no idea that it was that rampant," she said.  "I had no idea."

Two weeks ago, the future of the organization wasn't so bright.  A decrease in donations and poor fundraiser attendance had her questioning whether the doors would stay open.  But the story spread, and the community stepped up.

So far, they've raised $10,000.  Still the future of the organization is up in the air.  But Newlove says her mission to educate domestic violence victims will continue, no matter what.
