On Saturday, people had the chance to find out all Presque Isle has to offer when the temperatures aren't so warm at Winter Recreation Days.
"Sometimes, its a misconception that the peninsula closes in the winter time, and Erie shuts down in the winter time," said Brian Gula, Environmental Education Specialist." And that's quite the opposite."
There were plenty of people out fishing on East Waterworks Pond Winter Recreation Days. Along with learning to ice fish, those there got a tutorial on cross country skiing and snow shoeing, even though the conditions for some of those activities.
The S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie were also on hand Saturday. President Jerry Skrypzak said days like this are great to help get people out of the house, and out onto the peninsula.
"Its a fun event," said Skrypzak. "Its something to do in the winter time. And when the ice cooperates, you can have a lot of fun, you have to be careful but its still a lot of enjoyment of it."
Robert Goodman tells us this was his first time ice fishing. And even though his feet were numb from the cold, he still had fun. However, Robert said learning to ice fish, was more than just about having a good time.
"Because when you get older, you pretty much know all this and when you have kids, you get to teach them how to do that and they can teach their kids and their kids can teach their kids," said Goodman.
Goodman and the others there also had a chance to check out some of the trails at Presque Isle.
