The coach of a highly ranked Detroit high school basketball team collapsed and died after a game.
Family members and an assistant coach say
40-year-old Al Anderson fell to the floor Saturday after Detroit
Consortium defeated Dayton Dunbar, an Ohio school. Players from both
teams already had left the gym.
Anderson's wife, Kimberly, tells the Detroit Free Press that her husband had heart problems and had talked about resigning
after this season. Consortium is 13-3 as the state playoffs approach.
Players are shocked to hear about their coach's
death. Vincent Hunter, who plans to play basketball next year at
Texas-El Paso, says Anderson was tough but understanding.
Anderson ran track at Central Michigan and played high school basketball at Detroit DePorres.
