It seems that everyone is getting into the celebration honoring the victory of Oliver Hazard Perry in the Battle of Lake Erie 200 years ago.
Even the U.S. Mint.
The Mint is issuing a new quarter with the America the Beautiful series, depicting Admiral Perry in front of the Peace Memorial.
It was designed and engraved by Don Everhart and is expected to go into circulation in April.
The coin will represent the state of Ohio, not Pennsylvania because the Battle was fought in Ohio lake waters even though Perry's fleet was built in Erie and is considered his home base for battle preparations.
Pennsylvania also already has a coin in the America the Beautiful series depicting Gettysburg.
