Northstar Continues Recovery At OSU

Posted: Updated:

Northstar, the Crawford county horse who was intentionally set on fire last Summer, continues to recover.

Ohio State University has one of the best equine schools in the country.
Earlier this month, we traveled to Columbus, to get an exclusive look at how Northstar's treatment is going.

When we broke the story back in August, many people in the Erie community were shocked and saddened by it.
So much so, that the community helped raise enough money to send Northstar to OSU.

You may remember, someone purposely  poured accelerant on Northstar, then lit him on fire in his Crawford county pasture.
He suffered first, second, and third degree burns on over 40 percent of his body.
Thanks to an anonymous donor, Northstar's treatment at OSU is being paid for.
Every month he gets skin grafts, as part of his treatment

"It's been crazy, traveling back and forth between Ohio, the lay-up facility, trying to get time to do it, the weather, everything it's just crazy, but it's going good." Said Jessie Woodworth, Northstar's owner.
"He's got really a great personality, he as definitely weathered everything we've done with him fairly well, probably better than most horses." Said Dr. Samuel Hurcombe, Northstar's Veterinarian at OSU.

Northstar could be back home this Spring.

Meantime, just last week, there was new legislation introduced that would have a real impact in animal abuse cases throughout Pennsylvania.
We'll have details on that, plus a full report from Dr. Hurcombe coming up tonight in an in-depth report on 12News at 11.
