A life-long Erie resident running for sheriff.
Democrat Randy Boga made the announcement Wednesday evening.
He wants to fill the position that'll be left vacant by Erie County Sheriff Bob Merski, who's retiring this year, after 16 years as Sheriff.
Boga served in the marines for 23 years, serving 2 combat tours.
And, he spent 5 years as a corrections officer, at the Erie county prison.
In 2000, he was hired by the sheriff's department, where he has been ever since.
Boga is currently Deputy Sheriff.
He says, all that experience makes him the most qualified candidate.
"My top priority for the office is to move forward and continue with what we're doing. I like to be a little more involved within the community, getting deputies out there at community events. I'd like to see everybody treated fairly." Said Boga.
The primary election May 21st.
