Gretchen Buskirk Promoted to Associate Head Athletic Trainer

Posted: Updated:

Gretchen Buskirk has been promoted to the position of associate head athletic trainer at the University of Toledo, assistant athletic director for sports medicine Brian Jones announced today. Buskirk had been an assistant athletic trainer at UT since 2009.

In her new role, Buskirk  will take on the additional responsibilities as the sports medicine staff liaison to the UT Academic Program, will serve as the liaison to the Director of Pharmacy and be responsible for the recruitment and retention of graduate assistants. She will continue to provide primary coverage the women's soccer and cheerleading programs, and supervise graduate assistant athletic trainers for baseball and softball.

"I am extremely excited to move Gretchen into the associate head athletic trainer role," said Jones. "As we evaluated our program, it became very clear the person to help us advance our mission was already on staff.  Gretchen is well respected by our student-athletes, athletic training students and our staff.  We look forward to Gretchen helping guide our program in her new role."

A native of Richmond, VA, Buskirk earned her bachelor of science degree from Elon University in 2004, where she worked with the Phoenix's baseball, men's soccer, women's track and field and men's basketball squads. She received her master's degree in education from North Carolina State in 2006, working with the Wolfpack men's and women's cross country and track and field team.

Buskirk began her professional career at Furman University in Greenville, SC, where she worked from 2006-09. During her time with the Paladins, she worked directly with the women's soccer and women's basketball programs. She also coordinated the student-assistant scheduling in the Furman athletic training room, as well as spearheading the preventative ACL strengthening program for female student-athletes with video analysis.

Buskirk is certified as a Performance Enhancement Specialist and a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
