YPSILANTI, Mich. – Bowling Green sophomore Brittany Sinclair surprised the field in the 400 at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, qualifying for the finals of the meet on opening day of competition Friday. Her performance was just one of numerous efforts by the Falcons that exceeded their seeds entering the meet.
Sinclair entered the race seeded 19th out of 20 runners but she grabbed the eighth and final spot to the finals with a time of 57.53 seconds. She will look to climb even further when the finals take place Saturday at Bowen Field House on the campus of Eastern Michigan University.
Although Sinclair was the brightest star for BGSU on the day, there were plenty of other individuals who set personal bests or outperformed their seeds.
Junior Dana Gates finished 12th in the long jump with a season-long leap of 17-feet-9.75. That was more than two inches further than her previous best this year of 17-7.5.
Sophomore Krystin Reiser set a new personal best in the pentathlon with a score of 2,857. Her score was 98 points higher than her best in the event and was buoyed by a strong fifth place finish in the final event of the pentathlon – the 800.
Freshman Jasmine Redman placed 15th in the 5000 with a time of 17:56.91. Her time was almost three seconds quicker than her personal best.
Although freshman Tiera Parker finished 17th in the 60, her time of 7.85 seconds was the fastest time for any BGSU runner this year in the event and a personal best.
BGSU will be back in action Saturday at the MAC Championships at Bowen Field House. The Falcons are expected to compete for points in the weight throw and the 1600 relay, while Sinclair will run in the finals of the 400.
