Adrian man in custody after standoff, shooting police robot

A man is in custody after a standoff at a home on Renfrew Street in Adrian.

Investigators say 37-year-old Shawn Gauss barricaded himself inside of home and threatened to harm himself. A woman and three children made it to safety, but Gauss remained holed-up in the home. Police say he was armed.

Negotiators spent hours talking Gauss and the Michigan State Police sent a robotic camera inside the home. They say Gauss shot the robot.

A scond robotic camera located him in the basement and a tactical team made entry.

It's unclear what sparked the standoff. Police crews were called out to the home around 2 a.m.
