There's a new push by AAA for more state funding for road and bridge improvements. The auto club is putting up billboards across the state as part of the effort. Four of the billboards are located around Erie.
For years, state lawmakers have tried but failed to agree on a funding plan to address crumbling roads and bridges. And the issue is again being debated in Harrisburg. AAA leaders say the issue cannot wait any longer.
Regional AAA President David Poor said, "It's time to take action. We have waited too long. The can has been pushed down the road for many, many years. Now, roughly 50% of our roads are in poor or mediocre condition. It becomes a safety issue at this point."
Governor Corbett's plan would raise wholesale taxes on gasoline to fund transportation improvements.
