Erie County is moving quickly to fill a newly created position of deputy warden at the Erie County Prison. County Executive Barry Grossman called for creation of the new post after outside consultants reviewed prison operations.
The prison is under scrutiny after several employees were suspended or fired in the past year for breaking policies. The county expects to fill the new assistant warden job next week. "Next Monday is the day we'll interview the top three candidates," said Grossman, "and from what Judge Bozza's committee has told me these are outstanding candidates and we will fill this post with a top notch prison warden."
The assistant warden will step up to the top job, when warden Jim Veshecco resigns at the end of the year.
