Toledo City Council has
a new leader. Democrat Paula Hicks-Hudson was elected president at a special
meeting Tuesday.
This comes one week
after council members deadlocked on a new president. With the Democratic Party
throwing its support behind her, Hicks-Hudson is ready to serve in the top
spot. She says her background makes her stand apart.
"I've been working
within city government, not only as a lawyer, but a legislative director, and I
think that's an addition that my predecessors don't have or didn't have,"
she says.
Former President Joe McNamara
stepped down as president to focus on his bid for mayor. McNamara will continue
to still serve as a council member.
