A local organization wants
to make sure University
of Toledo students don't
fall through the cracks. It's called "Brothers on the Rise," and their hope is
to make sure minority men get their college diplomas.
In fall 2011, UT's
retention rate for African American males was less than 50 percent. It's the
lowest of all ethnic groups on campus.
The 5-year graduation
rate is even worse at less than 11 percent.
Brothers on the Rise
meets monthly with 15 to 30 students and tackles topics like financial aid,
study habits and other issues students may face on campus.
