No Tax Exemption for Private Bayfront Business - WICU12/WSEE Erie, PA News, Sports, Weather and Events

One business lost its appeal, another withdrew its petition in a long shot attempt of two private bayfront businesses to become tax exempt.

Both RCR Yachts and Bay Harbor Marina had hoped to use a recent court ruling to become tax exempt. Both lease from the non-profit Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority.

But RCR Yachts withdrew its petition before a hearing before the Erie County Board of Tax Assessment Appeals.

Bay Harbor Marina went through with the hearing but was denied its tax exempt request.

In a separate move the businesses are also looking to reduce the assessed value of the properties.

Both say a recent spike in assessed tax value makes it harder to do business along the water.
