Volunteers next month will help clean up the beaches at Presque Isle's Gull Point. The land at the tip of the park is closed to the public beginning April 1st because it serves as a sanctuary for migratory birds.
For the third straight year a cleanup is planned. It's scheduled for March 16th. Volunteers will spend the morning clearing debris off the beaches to ensure the birds have a clean environment for feeding and resting.
Environmental Educator Stacey Marendt said, "You don't want them to have litter that they may mistake for food. And sometimes if they have litter they may not rest there if there is a lot of it. So we need to clean that up and make sure it is just natural objects the birds have there."
Anyone interested in volunteering should call the park office at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center.
