Students at St. George Catholic School in Millcreek today watched on television as Pope Benedict said goodbye.
The 7th and 8th graders have been closely watching the events unfold at the Vatican in recent weeks during their religion class. Students tell us they have learned a lot about their faith and the church.
Teachers say it's bittersweet seeing the Pope they love and admire step down.
Religion Teacher Marielle Lafaro said, "That's what makes this event something that is both very beautiful and very painful for a lot of us, because we have grown so fond of him as a person."
The students will also be closely watching the upcoming conclave when the cardinals meet to select the new Pope.
