Erie police are investigating an armed robbery at a downtown tavern. They're looking for four teens, armed with handguns who walked into Sophia's Tavern at 514 Cherry Street just before 10:00 Sunday night and robbed the business of several bottles of liquor. One police official said the robbers were near the cash register, but could not confirm if any money was taken in the hold-up.
Police describe the robbers as juveniles, wearing masks with hoods pulled up over their heads. The officer in charge did not have a report yet on how many people were inside the bar at the time of the hold-up. The first reports from the scene indicated that one of the robbers had a handgun, but police later reported that all four suspects were carrying weapons.
