Breymier Picks Up Four Hits In Pair Of Losses For Express Baseball

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH - Benjamin Breymier picked up four hits, but the Express baseball team dropped a pair of games over the past two days to Olney Central College and Danville Area Community College.

Sunday - Olney Central College 6 Owens 1

Luke Whelpton took the loss for the Express as Olney Central scored twice in three different innings to pick up the win.

Whelpton allowed six hits, two walks, two hit batters and four runs (two earned) to fall to 0-1.

In one inning, the Express allowed two unearned runs. In another inning, Whelpton hit back-to-back batters with the bases loaded.

In the fifth inning, the Express got back-to-back singles to lead off the inning from Breymier and Logan Shullick. After Anthony Perez walked to load the bases, Austin Legate hit a grounder back to the pitcher for a force out at home. Following that, Alex Samson hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Shullick.

Breymier finished 3-for-3, while Shullick went 1-for-1 with a walk, a HBP and a run.

The Express totaled four hits, two walks and three strikeouts, while Olney had eight hits and two walks.

Monday - Danville Area CC 8 Owens 0

Nick Street pitched a solid two innings of relief in his collegiate debut, but the Express fell 8-0 to Danville Area CC in today's game.

Street relieved starter Sean Koerber (5 IP, 10 H, BB, 3 K, 8 R), and threw two scoreless, hitless innings while striking out three.

"He threw it really well today," said Express head baseball coach Devin Taylor. "He kept the ball down in the zone and was really impressive in a great start to his collegiate career."

On offense, the Express were held to three hits and four walks. They struck out four times and stole two bases (Justin Elder and Breymier).

Nick Collins finished 2-for-3, while Breymier was 1-for-2 with a walk. Elder added a walk.

Danville Area scored twice in the second, four times in the third and twice in the fifth.

"They hit the ball when guys were in scoring position," Taylor said. "We had a couple chances (on offense), but didn't have any luck."
