Over 500 middle and high school students converged on Penn State Behrend today. The campus hosted the annual Northwest Pennsylvania Science Olympiad.
Students competed in events that tested their skill in biology, chemistry, computing, engineering, and physics.
The students had fun during the competition, but it also grooms the students towards future careers in math and science.
"I've talked to a few professors and also people who work out in the field such as engineers who say the Science Olympiad is the reason they are scientists or engineers," said Paul Ashcraft, Site Coordinator.
Winners in today's competition go on to the state tournament, and then possibly, to the national finals.
