The captain of the Warrant Division of the Erie County Sheriff's office says he wants to capture the department's top job.
Captain John Loomis announced his candidacy before a large crowd of supporters and family in Courtroom H at the Erie County Courthouse.
Loomis has worked in Erie County government for more than 30 years and has worked on several fugitive task forces while working in the Sheriff's office.
He is looking to replace current Sheriff Bob Merski who is retiring. Merski attended the announcement and says he supports Loomis as his replacement.
Loomis is a democrat and will face a challenge in the primary from a colleague, Deputy Randy Boga.
