Erie police have charged a suspect with the murder of 35-year old Aderian Page of East 24th Street, and he lives right around the corner from where the victim's body was found. The suspect is 48-year old Robert Quick and he is facing a long list of criminal charges.
Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri says it was a combination of factors that lead to the arrest, help from the neighbors, good police work and some trace evidence from the autopsy.
Police took Quick for arraignment on charges of homicide, aggravated assault, theft, robbery, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. They arrested him Monday night at his apartment - unit #3 in the back of 2412 Pennsylvania Avenue. His yard is just steps from where the body was found last week in the back yard of 1051 East 24th Street. A small memorial of flowers balloons marks the spot now.
A police evidence team walked District Attorney Jack Daneri through the crime scene. According to the criminal complaint filed by Detective Sgt. Paul Bizzarro and Detective Jason Triana, Aderian Page was beaten to death with an aluminum baseball bat in Quick's apartment. Police believe the murder happened on February 22, the day Page disappeared. After interviewing the suspect, police officers say Quick used a tarp to drag the body to an adjoining back yard. Quick disposed of that tarp along with one of the victim's boots.
Police Chief Steve Franklin and District Attorney would say little about motive, but they did confirm that Quick took $500 cash from the victim. "We've alleged he inflicted the injuries while committing the theft, or shortly thereafter,"said Daneri. "We believe money changed hands," said Chief Franklin, "and was eventually taken back off the victim."
Neighbors we spoke with were not that surprised by the deadly assault. They say Quick had a developed a reputation in the neighborhood for his quick temper and for threatening others in the neighborhood. "I think everyone that knew Bobby...he's capable of flare ups in his attitude we knew something was wrong with him," said neighbor Ryan Bowersox. Some of the neighbors were headed to the police station to share information about the suspect's temperament.
According to police and the D-A, white cat hairs found on the victim were among the trace evidence from the autopsy that helped lead to an arrest. Suspect Robert Quick owns a white cat.
