Erie County Judge Ernie DiSantis today sentenced a Waterford man to 18-36 months in prison for his role in a car crash that claimed the life of a teenager.
Twenty-three year old Michael Scott had pleaded guilty to DUI, aggravated assault by vehicle and reckless endangerment. The judge also ordered him to pay about $98,000 in restitution.
Scott was behind the wheel of a stolen car that left Route 97, rolled over and burst into flames in October 2011. Seventeen year old Cody Glover died in the wreck. The third person in the car, Aaron Hanes was previously sentenced to probation.
Prosecutors say the young men were huffing inhalants and smoking marijuana prior to the crash.
Scott apologized the Glover's family in court. He said, "My actions were wrong. I'm terribly sorry."
The victim's father, Robert Glover looked at Scott and said, "You should have known better."
Judge DiSantis called the incident "senseless" and an "insane frolic." And he said Scott had a terrible driving record.
