The 24-hour EnduROWthon is off and running at Mercyhurst University.
The men's rowing team is trying to break the world record for greatest distance rowed by a light-weight team.
They've also invited the community and members of other Mercyhurst University teams to take part in setting another record - the largest number of people rowing on one machine.
A world record has never been set in the City of Erie, and Mercyhurst's rowing team is looking to break both records in 24 hours.
"When it comes time for them to take their last stroke of these pieces, that's what this World Record is all about for us," said organizer Jeff Murt. "It's about giving back to the community, giving everybody an opportunity to see what it is that this powerhouse of a team that is Mercyhurst University's rowing team can do."
The enduROWthon goes until 9:00 PM Friday. You can stop by the Mercyhurst Athletic Center to see history in the making.
