Erie Mayor Joe Sinnott says he is not taking sides in the primary election contest between incumbent Erie County Executive Barry Grossman and challenger, former Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper.
On Monday, Dahlkemper is expected to officially announce she is challenging Grossman for the Democratic nomination.
Sinnott says he plans to stay neutral. But he expects Dahlkemper's challenge will make the primary much more interesting.
He said, "Well it definitely changes the profle of that race substantially and having two Democrats in the primary, with an incumbent is a little bit different. When you have a contested race that always raises the turnout somewhat. We'll see what it does with this race."
Sinnott is also running this year, trying for a third term as mayor.
